The quest for knowledge

After five years of design education my feelings are mixed. On one hand I believe that I am a complete and ready to work master of design. Given that I am the product of two multidisciplinary schools I also feel like me and my classmates might be a little bit different from students that comes out of other design educations. On the other hand there is one thing I feel that I am lacking. And it’s a very important bit if you are an industrial designer with the dream of working in the automotive industry. Me and many of my classmates fought for sketch technique classes all through these five years of education with very little or no results. I’m not going to go to deep into the situation but that is just how it is and how I feel and now is the time to do something about it. A bit backwards but better late then never.

Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another”  -Wikipedia

Sure, you can teach yourself a lot of things but that makes the concept of school a bit unnecessary. What I wanted was someone experienced to pass on his skills to me as a young designer. And that does work. The few times that we actually had a real teacher in sketching the acquired skill / hour was enormous  if you compare it to doing it all by yourself.

So now this is my main goal. I feel that I need this to feel comfortable as a professional industrial designer. I’ve got a couple of leads that I’m following. Sooner than later I will finally have a real sketch education.
